Rebar Estimating Services
Reinforcing steel takeoffs with bar counts and weights by size, laps, hooks, dowels, mesh and accessories, measured element by element from your structural drawings and delivered in 24–48 hours.
Bar by bar, size by size, element by element.
Rebar estimating services from NYNMO Estimating give reinforcing steel installers, fabricators and concrete contractors an accurate weight of every bar on a project, grouped by size and by structural element. Our estimators read the foundation plans, sections, schedules and typical details, then count and measure each bar run including laps, hooks and bends, so your tonnage reflects the reinforcement the engineer actually specified.
A rebar number built from a pounds-per-cubic-yard ratio can be badly wrong on heavily reinforced footings, shear walls and transfer elements. That is why our takeoffs are element based: you see the weight for each footing type, wall, column, beam and slab, with bar size, spacing and count. You can check our work against the schedules, plan your fabrication order and price placement labor by area of the building.
How we build a rebar estimate
We start with the general notes and typical details, because lap lengths, hook dimensions, cover and corner bars are usually defined there rather than on each plan. Elements are then measured in PlanSwift and Bluebeam, bars are counted at the specified spacing, lap splices are added at stock lengths, and weights are calculated by bar size. Welded wire mesh, dowels, chairs, bolsters and couplers are listed separately, and material and placement labor are priced at regional rates.
Reinforcement we take off.
We quantify reinforcement for every concrete element, or only the areas you are bidding.
Foundations
Spread and continuous footings, mat foundations, pile caps and grade beams, with top and bottom mats, stirrups and dowels.
Slabs
Slab on grade grids, mesh, thickened edges, elevated slabs, drop panels and post-tensioned slab mild steel.
Vertical elements
Walls, shear walls, columns and pilasters with verticals, horizontals, ties, corner bars and opening bars.
Beams and stairs
Beam longitudinal bars, stirrups and cast-in-place stair reinforcement measured from sections.
Site concrete
Retaining walls, site walls, paving, curbs and equipment pads with dowels and expansion details.
Accessories
Chairs, bolsters, slab bolsters, mechanical couplers, form savers, rebar caps and tie wire.
Rebar estimates for every project type.
ResidentialFoundations, slabs and retaining walls
For residential work we estimate reinforcement for footings, stem walls, basement walls, post-tensioned slab perimeter steel, garage slabs and retaining walls, organized by plan so production builders can reuse the takeoff across lots.
Commercial & industrialStructures, decks and heavy foundations
For commercial and industrial projects we cover mat foundations, shear walls, columns, elevated decks, tilt-up panels, equipment foundations and parking structures, grouped by level and pour so placement can be scheduled.
Rebar weight that is easy to miss.
The weight on the plan is rarely the weight you place. These items are where rebar estimates usually come up short, so we list each one:
- Lap splices at stock lengths on long runs, which can add a meaningful percentage to slab and wall weight.
- Typical details such as corner bars, opening trim bars and hooked ends that are drawn once and apply everywhere.
- Dowels and starter bars between footings, walls, columns and slabs.
- Thickened slab and beam reinforcement that is shown only in sections.
- Accessories like chairs and bolsters, which are often left out of a weight-only number.
Each line shows bar size, count, length and weight, so you can apply your own fabrication and placing rates.

General contractors
Check reinforcing subcontractor quotes before award.
Why contractors outsource rebar takeoffs.
Counting bars, laps and hooks across a full structural set is one of the slowest takeoffs in construction, and a rushed count is where costly misses happen. Outsourcing gives you a detailed takeoff in a day or two, so your team can spend its time pricing and winning work instead of measuring it.
Rebar is usually bid alongside concrete, so many clients order our concrete estimating services on the same project for one consistent package. When you only need quantities, our material takeoff services deliver the bar list without pricing.
Common questions about rebar estimating.
Answers to the questions contractors ask most before ordering an estimate.
How do you calculate rebar weight?
Bars are counted at the specified spacing for each element, lengths include laps, hooks and bends from the typical details, and weight is calculated from standard unit weights for each bar size.
Do you include laps and hooks?
Yes. Lap splice lengths and hook dimensions are taken from the general notes and typical details and added to every bar run, because they can add a significant percentage to total weight.
Do you estimate welded wire mesh?
Yes. Welded wire reinforcement is measured by area with laps included and listed separately from bar reinforcement.
Can you produce a bar list for fabrication?
Our standard deliverable is an estimating takeoff by element and bar size. If you need a format closer to a bar list, send us your template and we will match it where the drawings allow.
How long does a rebar takeoff take?
Most rebar takeoffs are delivered within 24 to 48 hours. Large structures with complex reinforcement may take longer, and we confirm the timeline up front.
How much does a rebar estimate cost?
Pricing is per project based on size and complexity, with a flat quote agreed before work starts. Send your plans for a free quote.
