Electrical takeoff & estimating

Every device, fixture and foot of wire.

Electrical estimating services from NYNMO Estimating give electrical contractors and general contractors a complete takeoff of the power, lighting and low-voltage systems on a project. Our estimators count every device and fixture by type from the electrical plans and legend, measure branch and feeder runs, and list panels, gear and equipment connections, so your bid is built from the drawings rather than a cost-per-square-foot shortcut.

Electrical estimates live and die on counts and runs. Missing a lighting type, under-measuring home runs or skipping equipment connections can take the margin out of a job. Our takeoffs are organized by system and by floor, with conduit and wire by size, so you can apply your own labor units and see exactly where the hours are.

How we build an electrical estimate

We review the electrical plans, legend, panel schedules, one-line diagram, lighting fixture schedule and specifications. Devices and fixtures are counted by symbol in PlanSwift and Bluebeam, branch circuits and home runs are measured, and feeders are taken from the one-line and riser diagrams. Gear, transformers and equipment connections are listed from the schedules, and material and labor are priced at regional rates using industry labor units.

Scope we cover

Electrical systems we take off.

Power, lighting and low voltage, quantified by system and floor.

01

Power distribution

Service entrance, switchgear, panelboards, transformers and feeders from the one-line diagram.

02

Branch power

Receptacles, dedicated circuits, home runs, conduit, wire and boxes by floor.

03

Lighting and controls

Fixtures by type from the schedule, emergency lighting, sensors, dimming and lighting control panels.

04

Equipment connections

Mechanical, plumbing and owner equipment connections, disconnects and motor circuits.

05

Fire alarm

Initiating and notification devices, panels and cabling from the fire alarm drawings.

06

Low voltage

Data and telecom outlets, cable trays, security, access control and AV rough-in.

Residential & commercial

Electrical estimates for every project type.

ResidentialHomes and multifamily

For residential projects we estimate devices, lighting, panels, service and low voltage for custom homes, production plans and apartments, with unit types totaled for multifamily buildings.

Commercial & industrialOffices, healthcare, retail and plants

For commercial and industrial work we cover distribution, branch power, lighting controls, fire alarm and equipment connections in offices, hospitals, schools, warehouses and production facilities.

Protect your margin

Electrical costs that are easy to miss.

These are the items most often missing from electrical bids, so we list them separately:

  • Home runs and long branch circuits that add conduit and wire beyond the room layout.
  • Equipment connections for mechanical units, pumps and owner equipment.
  • Lighting controls such as occupancy sensors, dimmers and control panels.
  • Feeder lengths measured from the actual gear location to each panel.
  • Fire alarm and low-voltage rough-in shown on separate drawings.

Material and labor are shown by line, so you can apply your own labor factors.

How it works

Three steps from plans to a priced bid.

Who it's for

Built for the people who bid electrical.

Our electrical takeoffs fit contractors who need accurate counts and runs without days of counting symbols.

Electrical contractors

Bid more projects with accurate counts and labor.

Low-voltage contractors

Price data, security and AV rough-in by device.

General contractors

Check electrical bids and confirm scope coverage.

Developers

Budget electrical systems before drawings are final.

Why outsource

Why electrical contractors outsource takeoffs.

Counting hundreds of symbols and measuring every circuit is the most time-consuming part of an electrical bid. Outsourcing the takeoff gets you accurate quantities in a day or two, so your estimators can focus on pricing, vendor quotes and strategy.

Electrical is part of the MEP package, so clients often add our plumbing, HVAC and MEP estimating services on the same project for coordinated numbers.

FAQ

Common questions about electrical estimating.

Answers to the questions contractors ask most before ordering an estimate.

How do you count electrical devices?

Devices and fixtures are counted by symbol from the electrical plans and legend, floor by floor, and checked against the lighting fixture schedule and panel schedules.

Do you measure conduit and wire?

Yes. Branch circuits, home runs and feeders are measured and listed by conduit size, type and wire size, with fittings and boxes added.

Do you include labor?

Yes. Labor is calculated using industry labor units and regional rates, or we can deliver quantities only so you can apply your own units.

Do you estimate fire alarm and low voltage?

Yes. Fire alarm devices and cabling, data outlets, security, access control and AV rough-in are listed separately when they are in your scope.

How long does an electrical estimate take?

Most electrical estimates are delivered within 24 to 48 hours, and large commercial projects may take longer.

How much does an electrical estimate cost?

Pricing is per project with a flat quote before work starts. Send your plans for a free quote.
