Insulation takeoff & estimating

Every assembly, every R-value.

Insulation estimating services from NYNMO Estimating give insulation contractors and general contractors an accurate takeoff of thermal and acoustic insulation across every assembly on a project. Our estimators match walls, roofs, floors and ceilings to their assemblies in the sections and specifications, measure each area, and list the insulation type, thickness and R-value, so your bid prices what the energy code and the designer actually require.

Insulation is rarely one product. A typical building may use batts in walls, blown insulation in attics, continuous rigid board on the exterior, spray foam at rim joists and acoustic batts in partitions. We separate each one, so you can price materials and labor for each installation method.

How we build an insulation estimate

We review wall sections, roof and floor assemblies, partition types and specifications to confirm insulation types, R-values and air barrier requirements. Areas are measured in PlanSwift and Bluebeam by assembly, framing factors are considered for cavity insulation, and spray foam is measured by area and thickness. Air and vapor barriers, tapes and sealants are added, and material and labor are priced at regional rates.

Scope we cover

Insulation systems we take off.

Thermal, acoustic and air barrier scopes, quantified by assembly.

01

Wall insulation

Cavity batts, spray foam and continuous exterior insulation by wall type and R-value.

02

Roof and attic

Blown insulation, batts and rigid roof insulation, including tapered systems on low-slope roofs.

03

Floors and foundations

Under-slab board, perimeter insulation, crawlspace and floor-over-unconditioned-space insulation.

04

Acoustic insulation

Sound batts in partitions and floor-ceiling assemblies from the partition schedule.

05

Air and vapor barriers

Fluid-applied and sheet membranes, house wrap, tapes, flashing and sealants by area.

06

Fire safing

Mineral wool safing at slab edges and fire stopping at rated assemblies where included in your scope.

Residential & commercial

Insulation estimates for every building type.

ResidentialHomes, multifamily and retrofits

For residential projects we estimate wall, attic, floor and rim joist insulation for new homes, apartments and retrofits, listed by area so you can quote batts, blown or spray foam options.

CommercialEnvelopes, roofs and interiors

For commercial buildings we cover continuous insulation, roof insulation, acoustic insulation in partitions, air barriers and fire safing on offices, schools, healthcare and multifamily.

Protect your margin

Insulation costs that are easy to miss.

These items are often left out of a quick insulation estimate:

  • Rim joists and band areas that need spray foam or cut-in board.
  • Continuous insulation on exterior walls under the cladding.
  • Acoustic insulation in partitions shown only on the partition schedule.
  • Air barrier details at windows, penetrations and transitions.
  • High walls and difficult access that slow installation.

Each assembly carries its area, product and R-value, so you can price it your way.

Who it's for

Built for the people who bid insulation.

Our insulation takeoffs fit contractors who need clear quantities by assembly.

Insulation contractors

Bid more jobs with every assembly priced correctly.

Spray foam contractors

Price foam by area and thickness for each location.

General contractors

Check insulation bids against code and specs.

Energy consultants

Get insulation quantities for upgrade budgets.

Why outsource

Why insulation contractors outsource takeoffs.

Matching every wall, roof and partition to its assembly takes careful reading of the sections and specifications. Outsourcing that work gives you accurate quantities quickly, so you can bid more projects with the same team.

Insulation ties into framing and finishes, so clients often add our drywall, roofing and lumber and framing estimates on the same project.

FAQ

Common questions about insulation estimating.

Answers to the questions contractors ask most before ordering an estimate.

How do you measure insulation?

Areas are measured by assembly from the plans, sections and partition schedule, and each area is listed with its insulation type, thickness and R-value from the specifications.

Do you estimate spray foam?

Yes. Spray foam is measured by area and thickness for each location, with open-cell and closed-cell listed separately.

Do you include air and vapor barriers?

Yes. Air and vapor barriers, house wrap, tapes and sealants are listed separately by area and linear foot where details call for them.

Do you estimate acoustic insulation?

Yes. Acoustic batts in partitions and floor-ceiling assemblies are taken from the partition schedule and listed separately from thermal insulation.

How long does an insulation estimate take?

Most insulation estimates are delivered within 24 to 48 hours.

How much does an insulation estimate cost?

Pricing is per project with a flat quote before work starts. Send your plans for a free quote.
